Goddess Blessing Dolls are one of the more popular magickal craft classes I've taught over the years. Each doll should be created for positive intentions to promote peace, love and healing energy. Don't feel not limited to the Goddess doll pattern. If desired, you may create a blessing doll using a greenman, faerie, mermaid, animal, bird or other small sewing pattern. Be creative and have fun!
The blessing doll can be made for yourself or to gift to someone. The Herbology chapter will assist you when selecting specific herbs, flowers and woods to stuff inside or embellish the outside of the blessing doll. You may also refer to the Healing Stones chapter when selecting the gemstones.
SUPPLIES •Straight Pins •Sturdy Fabric •Sturdy Thread •Fiberfill Stuffing •Existing Doll Pattern or Blank Pattern Paper •Sewing Machine or Standard Hand Sewing Needle •1-3 Raw or Tumbled Gemstones •1 Teaspoon of each Herb(s) You Desire to Use
INSTRUCTIONS •Begin by deciding on the pattern for the doll. Some ideas are: Goddess, Greenman, Faerie, Pixie, Mermaid, animals, birds or other small sewing patterns. •If you don't already have an existing pattern for this projects, then you'll need to freehand draw or trace a doll pattern on the pattern paper. Be sure to have at least a 1/4" seam allowance on your pattern. The length of the doll is up to you. The ones I've create are about 6-12 inches tall. •Cut the pattern out and use the straight pins to attach it to the fabric. Doubling up fabric to cut both the front and back sides of the doll will make sewing it together far easier. •Cut the fabric along the edge of the pattern. •Remove the pattern and repin the front and back sides of fabric together. •Sew the doll a little over halfway closed and then stuff the inside with a fiberfill stuffing, gemstone and herbs. •Once your doll is stuff full, sew it completely shut. •Embellish the outside of the blessing doll by sewing on adornments that may include: old keys, jewelry, ribbons, lace, gemstone beads, wooden beads, etc...
